We are proud to report that Maithili Pai from the Class of 2017 has been selected as a Public Service Venture Fund Kaufman Fellow in recognition of her commitment to public interest work and potential for an outstanding career in public service.
Ms. Maithili Pai will be supported by an award of Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000) for a year of work at the International Service for Human Rights (ISHR) in New York City. She will also be closely co-ordinating and working with its Geneva Office. ISHR is a reputed international Non-Governmental Organisation that was established in 1984 to support human rights defenders and advocate for stronger and more effective human rights laws and institutions.
Prior to pursuing her LL.M at Harvard Law School, Ms. Maithili Pai had been a law clerk-cum-research assistant to Supreme Court Justice Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud since graduating in 2017. She was an active participant in activities in NUJS. She was a part of the NUJS Law Review for two years, the Shadinota Prison Reforms Programme (a joint initiative of the University and the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative) for three years, the IDIA West Bengal Chapter, and the Child Rights Centre of NUJS. She also participated in various moot court competitions, mediation competitions, and conferences.
Asked about the Fellowship and the role that NUJS played in her life, Ms. Maithili Pai said, "I would like to express my gratitude to NUJS - especially my professors and peers for their significant influences in shaping me as a lawyer and for their continued support and encouragement. I am also grateful to Harvard for the training that I recieved over the last year and for supporting my dreams with this invaluable opportunity."
We congratulate Ms. Maithili Pai for this exemplary feat, and take pride in her achievement. We wish her the very best in all her future endeavours and hope that she joins us soon!
