NUJS reaches semi-finals at the ICC Asia-Pacific Commercial Mediation Competition 2019

In one of the biggest achievements in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution for the university, the team comprising of Aastha Malhotra, Abhishek Hazari and Yash Raj Mehran broke into the semi-finals, and were declared the fourth best team at the ICC Australia Asia-Pacific Commercial Mediation Competition held at Melbourne, Australia from the 26th of July to the 28th of July 2018. Aastha Malhotra was also awarded the Lander and Rogers Award for Best Negotiator, with a cash prize of $1000. The team was coached by Mr Akshit Goyal, a NUJS class of 2017 alumnus, and Mr Jonathan Rodrigues, co-founder of Peacekeeping and Conflict Resolution Team (PACT).

The ICC Australia Asia-Pacific commercial mediation competition follows the well-established ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition Rules with a mock commercial dispute being presented to the participants, wherein the competing teams represent two sides of an international commercial dispute, with members assuming the roles of the Client and Counsel. The competition also acts as the preliminary round to the ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition, held annually at the ICC Global Headquarters in Paris, France. Teams of 2-4 students compete against each other in a series of competition rounds. Competing teams represent two sides of an international commercial dispute, with members assuming the roles of the Client and Counsel. A qualified professional mediates the dispute, and distinguished judges assess how well the teams have advanced their interests.

We congratulate all the members of the winning team and the Alternative Dispute resolution society for this phenomenal achievement.
