NUJS IPTLS hosts world-renowned copyright law scholar Prof. David Nimmer for an online lecture.

We are pleased to inform you that the NUJS Intellectual Property and Technology Laws Society (IPTLS) hosted world-renowned copyright law scholar, and IP lawyer, Prof. David Nimmer for an online lecture on December 23, 2020. The lecture was dedicated to the memory of former NUJS professor, and Indian legal scholar, late Prof. (Dr.) Shamnad Basheer.

Prof. Nimmer is widely recognized as the foremost expert in copyright law. He has authored and updated "Nimmer on Copyright", the standard reference treatise in the field, first published in 1963 by his late father, Prof. Melville B. Nimmer. The treatise has been cited at various levels of courts in the US and across the globe. Currently, he serves as a Professor from Practice at UCLA School of Law and is Of Counsel to Irell & Manella LLP in Los Angeles, California.

The discussion in the lecture revolved around the ongoing US case of Google v. Oracle in which Prof. Nimmer is an amicus to the court on behalf of Google. The other panelists included NUJS Prof. (Dr.) Anirban Mazumdar, Ms. Paramita Dasgupta, NUJS Alumnus Prakruthi Gowda, IPTLS Directors Aatmik Jain (Class of 2023) and Sevanshi Kamdar (Class of 2023) in addition to other members of the society.

We thank Prof. David Nimmer for taking time out of his busy schedule to engage with us. It was an honour for the university to play host.
