In one of the biggest achievements in the field of competitive negotiation, the university team comprising of Shaishir Divatia and Shourya Dasgupta has emerged as the winner of the 5th HSF-NLU Delhi International Negotiation Competition 2018 that was held between the 7th of September 2018 to the 9th of September 2018.
The 5th HSF-NLU Delhi International Negotiation Competition was sponsored by the Herbert Smith Freehills one of the world’s leading law firms and was aimed at providing the participants an opportunity to law students of top universities across the globe to practice and improve their negotiation skills in a diverse international environment. The competition was structured to simulate legal negotiations and is seen to be particularly useful for those students who aspire to be international lawyers. In the competition participants assume the roles of international lawyers in negotiating a series of legal problems which are based on real life examples. The competition was judged by legal professionals and experts which included Hon’ble Mr Justice Rajendra Menon (Chief Justice, High Court of Delhi and Chancellor, National Law University, Delhi), Mr Chris Parsons (Chairman, India Practice, Herbert Smith Freehills), Mr Bhaskar Chandran (President, Legal & Regulatory, GMR Group) and Mr Aditya Ghosh (Business Leader & Entrepreneur).
The team created history by being the first Indian team to have won the award for the 'Best Negotiation team'. Apart from the winning trophy, Shourya Dasgupta bagged the award for the Best Negotiator. The team was up against the team from University of Oxford in the final rounds.
