NUJS Student Awarded Rhodes Scholarship 2019

In what is a phenomenal academic achievement, Mihika Poddar from the Class of 2019 has been awarded the Rhodes Scholarship for the year 2019.

The Rhodes Scholarship is one of the oldest and most prestigious international scholarship programme in the world, and one that enables outstanding young people from around the world to undertake full-time postgraduate study at the University of Oxford.The scholarship is awarded to student beneficiaries on the basis of outstanding intellect, character, leadership, and commitment to service. The scholarship aims to provide a life-changing opportunity for exceptional young people with the potential to make a difference for good in the world.

In her span of four years at NUJS, Mihika Poddar has been one of the leading members of the NUJS Legal Aid Society, where she has worked extensively on the Policy for Rights of Transgender and Gender Diverse Persons. She has also served as an active member of the NUJS Gender and Sexuality Forum (GSF) and had been the Senior Associate member of the NUJS Law Review. In her first year, she was also a semi-finalist at the Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot 2015. Besides, she has authored several papers on law, society and public policy.

Mihika will be sharing the ranks of other Rhodes Scholars from the University which includes Shibani Ghosh from the Class of 2006, Amba Kak from the Class of 2014 and Gauri Pillai from the Class of 2017.

'I cannot wait to begin my journey and hopefully use this opportunity to work around the issues I feel passionately about. I owe so much to my friends, seniors and teachers at NUJS whose unwavering support has made this possible' Mihika said when asked about their journey ahead as a Rhodes scholar.
