Mr. Rahul Matthan is one of the founding partners of Trilegal, and is the head of the firm's TMT (Technology, Media and Telecommunication) practice. He graduated from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore in 1994. In 2000, he, along with a few others, founded a law firm called Trilegal, that has grown to become one of the top-most law firms in the country.
He is widely recognized as an industry expert in the technology space, including in the areas of data protection, outsourcing, e-commerce, new media, entertainment, biotechnology, pharma, and other new technologies. He advises clients such as Flipkart, InMobi and Practo on matters including multi-jurisdictional technology acquisitions, licensing agreements, IP matters, telecom regulations and outsourcing transactions; new content delivery models for mobile value added services; regulatory issues surrounding the delivery of electronic content; and legal and contractual issues in global e-commerce space.
He has assisted the Government of India in the preparation of a proposal for an Indian privacy and data protection law that would regulate the storage and disclosure of personal information. His book, "The Law Relating to Computers and the Internet", published by Butterworths, is recognized as a seminal work on this subject. Recently, he was named by Mint Asia as one of the "Twenty five people who matter in Indian e-commerce".
