In yet another significant mooting achievement, the university team comprising of Ayana Banerjee, Harsh Lahiri, Chaitanya Awasthi, Aashesh Singh and Simar Singh has emerged as the Baker McKenzie Highest Ranked team at the global rounds of the FDI International Arbitration Moot, 2018 held between the 8th and the 11th of November 2018.
The FDI International Arbitration moot spans spans approximately six months each year and is conducted in two phases with an aim of inculcating in students, academicians and practitioners a practical understanding of investor/state arbitration issues. The South Asian regional rounds this year were organised by Kachwaha and partners and was conducted in New Delhi.The teams that finished at the top of the New Delhi rounds advanced to the Global rounds and received financial assistance from the Thomas Waelde Fund instituted with an aim to support the participation of developing countries in the competition. The team representing NUJS finished as the finalists in the South Asia regional rounds and qualified for the global orals held in the Stockholm University, Stockholm, Sweden.
Apart from emerging as the Baker McKenzie Highest Ranked team based on their cumulative preliminary oral scores and memo scores the team also finished won the 'Best Respondent Memorial Award' and the '2nd Best Claimant Memorial Award'. Ayana Banerjee was one of the top 10 speakers of the tournament and the team qualified till the octa finals in the orals.
