We are proud to announce that the Alumni Association of National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata, along with their student-run Alumni Cell, initiated a nationwide vaccination drive. The drive started from the city of Bangalore and was followed by Kolkata and Hyderabad.
On June 5, 2021, members of the alumni and their families were vaccinated at Vikram Hospital on Miller Road in Central Bangalore. Nishant Beniwal, the President of the Alumni Association, said, “Our alumni network is spread across the entire country and beyond. Through this drive, we are trying to facilitate the vaccination process for all the members of the NUJS family.”
The most important leg of the drive took place in the NUJS campus in Kolkata on Saturday, June 12, 2021. The workers in the mess, security, housekeeping and other unorganised sections of the University staff were vaccinated along with their families and dependents. The Alumni body entirely funded the vaccination for all such workers and their families. Aritri Roy Chowdhury from the Alumni Association said, “We will also conduct another drive on campus to administer the second dose of the vaccine to the workers of our University and their families.”
The organisers arranged for private cabs to pick up the workers and their families from different parts of the state. Cabs left as early as 4 AM to travel more than a hundred kilometres to pick up the beneficiaries. “We set up a volunteer network of students who called the workers and got them registered on the CoWin app. They also worked tirelessly to work out the logistics on the day of the vaccination in Kolkata,” said Ankit Pal, the coordinator of the student-run Alumni Cell of the University. Further, alumni members, teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as students were also given the opportunity to avail the facility in this drive. Fortis hospital was the medical partner for this drive, where more than a hundred and fifty people got vaccinated.
A vaccination drive for alumni and their families was also conducted in Hyderabad on June 12 at Yashoda Hospitals. Through this nationwide drive, the alumni contributed to the safety and well-being of the members of the NUJS family.
