67th IDG session with Mr. Yogendra Yadav and Mr. Avik Saha

The 67th session organised by the NUJS Informal Discussion group witnessed a dialogue between Mr. Yogendra Yadav and Mr. Avik Saha the founding members of the Swaraj Abhiyan and the student body on the theme "Rural Distress & Democratic Challenges".

Mr. Yogendra Yadav is a noted Indian politician and psephologist. A founding member of Swaraj Abhiyan and Jai Kisan Andolan, Mr Yadav is well known for his stint the national executive of the Aam Aadmi Party. He has been a Senior Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), Delhi since 2004. He is a former member of University Grants Commission (UGC) and National Advisory Council (NAC) on Right to Education Act (RTE). Mr. Avik Saha is the national convener of the Jai Kisan Andolan and is a founding member of the Swaraj Abhiyan. He is well known for his activism that focuses on farmer's rights.

The session witnessed Mr. Avik Saha and Mr. Yogendra Yadav engaging with the audience on a variety of topics including the media attention on the issue of farmer's distress, crop insurance, land acquisition, the landmark case- Swaraj Abhiyan v. Union of India, rural banking and the state's role among others.

We thank the guests for the enlightening lecture and it was indeed an honour for the university to play host.
